I’ve told you some of the Top Girls Basketball Summer Tournaments to attend. Now let me tell you why I picked these.
Blue Star College Showcase
As a player, I attended my first exposure event during the summer after my 10 grade year of high school. It was a Blue Star event. It was held at the University of Memphis. At the event, I was able to test my basketball skills against top girls from areas outside of the City of Memphis. I did pretty well making it to the All Star game featuring the top players from the event.
Girls Deep South Classic and Girls Showtime National Championships
As a coach, one of my first exposure events to coach in was a Mike White event in Atlanta. I had never seen a facility so full of college coaches before. Our team went into that tournament as an unknown. And guess what. We won our age division championship. From that one event in April, college coaches were calling trying to find out what tournaments we would be playing in next. They literally were going to plan their recruitment schedule around our playing schedule.
River City Classic
We are fortunate to have the River City Classic hosted here in Memphis, TN. First of all, it is run by Tournament Director Carl Tinsley who also runs the End of the Oregon Trail tournament out of Oregon. Because of the success of End of the Oregon Trail, it makes the River City Classic a great place for players from the south to play against competition from the west coast. And another major plus is that college coaches from the west coast area are in attendance also.
From my experience you can see how you can benefit from attending these tournaments. You get to see where you measure against regional and national competition, you can put yourself in position to have coaches wanting to recruit around your summer schedule and you can turn yourself into a national top player. I’m sure there are other great summer tournaments and events available. I mention these because I’ve had personal experiences at these NCAA certified events.
